Chic Paris Christmas

A Chic Paris Holiday Season – Day 8 – Schedule the Fun

 December 10, 2020

The Eiffel Tower is lost in the cold, grey fog this morning.

It’s a cold and grey day here in Paris. The temperatures hovered all day around freezing (32 F/0 C). Even though I sometimes feel like I’m a grinch-in-training when it comes to the holidays, I was positively chipper this morning on my morning coffee-gratitude walk. I was beautifully warm and I felt pretty stylish with my thick socks worn inside my tall boots (waterproof) and my spiffy heavy wool coat. I wore a pale pink, very wide scarf and my shearling gloves.  Here in Paris, quite a few women wear very wide scarves (about 3 times wider than a typical scarf) wrapped almost blanket-like around their neck and shoulders. When I first saw these wide scarves, I was a bit perplexed with how the wearers keep them from a) unwrapping and b) getting caught in doorways. It wasn’t long before I found this pale, creamy pink scarf and decided to give it a try. The verdict: toasty warm! (I keep the ends tucked into my coat to keep it from unwrapping unexpectedly.)

With a comfortable and stylish-feeling morning walk behind me, I settled in to follow Fiona’s advice – put some fun on the calendar. (Left to my own devices, I would probably spend the season reading a book and rarely leaving my neighborhood – and then wonder why the season had sped by without us doing anything holiday-ish.) It turns out that there are several Christmas markets that are already open. (Good Christmas stocking hunting grounds.) I have already scheduled a walk in the late afternoon on the Champs Elysees for this upcoming Saturday. Next week will be strolling down the rue Faubourg-St Honore to admire the shop windows. All of the above will be done with masks on and being careful about personal space. I, like most of France, will be waiting to hear on December 15 what regulations will be in effect for the rest of December as far as travel is concerned.

An early morning sight.
